Hey guys, got something for ya to think about...I have an ol 79 Mercury 200 HP ,new problems ... #1 my tachometer stopped working, seems to work intermitently or until engine is warm,
#2 problem when shifting to reverse engine revs too high before reverse engages,
#3 took it out for the first time this season, was windy so didnt go far but she ran fine, great out of the hole and ran smooth when i shut down(see old posts ) BUT .. while circling around waitin for buddy to back trailer, she stalled, i restarted and would idle but would not rev up past 2 or 3000 rpm ( guessing ) then when i put it in fwd gear it would kill it instantly ,but i managed to get it on the trailer where we let it run and after i jacked the throttle back and forth a couple times it seemed to work better .. reving up and i could put in gear and push up on the trailer but still seemed kind of weak, like maybe wasnt
opening the throttle fully . Sorry for the long winded topic, just like to hear some opinions , i have had 2 new stators( loose magnet on flywheel burned up stator? ) and a new switch box last year & several carb rebuilds, but i still get only small trips that usualy end up with some kind of break down.heheh thanks in advance and have a gr8 boating season guys :) ) be safe

Well that sounds like it could be something fuel related. Check for old or rotten hoses because that's what happened to a 115 that I had experience with. The rotten line discharged rubber into the carbs and stopped them up. Also, a compression test would never hurt.
