Hello,

I'm working on a 1979 Mercury 40hp outboard and wanted to ask how to remove the lower water pump housing. I've been unable to remove it and I dont want to break it. I have a impeller kit with all new gaskets and orings so i wanted to replace them all.

The upper housing and old impeller are of course removed at this point. Any help would be much appreciated.

Did you remove flush plug?it should be just above gear case oil vent.

I'll have to check that when I get home and report back again later. I removed the fill plug just below the water pump assembly on the outside of the lower unit but I dont think that's what you're referring to.

thanks

Is there pictures available to help explain this flush plug? I'm still not having any luck.

Thanks.

The pics are in your manual. Along with a step by step write up.

I got it. It was just a matter of persistance to get it unstuck. I dont have a manual but that would be a good investment.

Thanks.
