79 Merc 70hp Problems

I had Problems getting full power out of my 70hp Merc a few days ago. It sat for a year and now not hitting top end speed . It will take off and run at High speed about 20 seconds ,then die and shut off . I cleaned the Carbs and adjusted the floats to be even with the carb base .The seam on the floats are even with the carb base. IT STILL RAN THE SAME .I then adjusted the floats about 1\8 above the carb base ,now it runs WORSE . What is the Float setting? I cant find this info anyplace. A friend said that I might have a bad COIL . How do I test the Coils?

Does anyone know the FLOAT SETTING for this 1979 70 HP Motor????

Why does the post that I put on at 7/5/21 say that it was put on at Aug 26 ,2018 I still need the FLOAT setting. NEVER MIND I did not have my Glasses on .That date is when I joined DUH

YES but I still cant find any info on how to Adjust my FLOATS . What is the GAP setting?
