79 mercury 115

Going tomorrow to check out a 115 inline 6 guy said it just lost spark pretty sure its gonna be the switch box but he said its a 79 distributor style by I was thinking 79 was when they went to electronic ignition .maybe its older than 79 or maybe the guy doesn't know what he's looking at???

Early 1979 inline six Mercs were distributor CDI ignition. However, the only way to tell year is by serial number. The rotor and trigger on those distributor motors are very pricey as is the switchbox.
