You probably will not find a service manual for your boat as such, since the control is black maybe it is mercruiser, if so get the serial numbers from the engine and drive and go to mercruiser and get the oem manuals. There are aftermarket manuals but the oem are much better. Hopefully you can still get them for that vintage. You can check on iboats and see what manuals they have.

Hope this helps.

Re: 79 searay srv 195 mercruiser 260

Thank you...appreciate the response. Ive since discovered that the boat has rotten floor and stringers. (dont buy used boats in -30 weather as the floors seem strong) I have gutted the boat including the engine stringers. I did run the engine on muffs and it is very strong, the seller said it had just been rebuilt. Too bad the rebuild didnt include new stringers and transom wood. Anyway, the transom is rotted on one side. I plan to install new stringers and deck (have engine supported in place) and get the boat on the water to see if i like it. maybe next year pull the drive and engine and finish the work. Q: If the front engine mounts are strong but the transom is rotted, am I still at risk of damaging the boat / myself? where are most of the forces generated? Could i expect to get away with just a partial replacement and have some years of fun without doing the transom if the rest is good?

here are pics of both sides or transom...looking at the engine, the left side wood appears dry and strong, whereas the right side is rotting...???

You would be better off posting the stringer and transom repair up in the
Boat Restoration and Building thread. There are some people there that can better advise you on what to do. My personal thoughts would be you need to do stringers, floor and transom before you go to the water The transom holds the outdrive, if it is weak the outdrive is going to try to come in the boat with you, in other words the transom will probably break. Don't take my word, go where there are some people that have the knowledge.

Re: 79 searay srv 195 mercruiser 260

Thanks....well the boat has all new wood including transom. Lots of glass and resin! put the boat in the water and it ran good but got water on pistons after shutting down. This year I will install new risers and manifolds. About the only thing I have left that is a mystery is the drive. Its serial number is 5494598. Its a 1979 with the letters Mercruiser 260 on it. For the life of me I cant find out where to pump new drive oil in. At the bottom there is a very small hole that has no plug. It just seems to be a passage that goes into the bottom housing. There is a vent at the top and it is labelled vent. I cant seem to find any literature online. Any help would be great...

Re: 79 searay srv 195 mercruiser 260

I'm looking at a 1975, 18 1/2 foot Sea Ray tomorrow with a Ford 302 and a 188 Mercruiser and would like to know the weight or approximate weight that I'd be pulling.

Thanks
