Re: 8 HP Johnson Remote Throttle?
If you're just interested in shifting, the remote kits for any 9.9 or 15hp would do just fine. Way cheaper too.
Well, it seems like most of what I'm finding are for the side shifter. The 6 & 8 from the early 90's had the shifter on the front of the engine. Plus, the tiller handle uses a cable to operate the throttle, rather than the old gear system.
I'm beginning to have a picture in my mind of what my extension handle will look like. The throttle business is handled like all of the extensions. You turn the extension handle and it turns the throttle, since it's clamped to it. It looks to me like what I need is a sleeve over the handle that's independent, with a push-pull business on the far end, and some sort of linkage to the front shifter. The sleeve would have to be attached to the outboard and not turn when you used the throttle. Then you could push or pull the sleeve to shift.
The concept's simple. Making it pretty, not so much. I could probably use a commercial extension handle and a PVC pipe sleeve for the shifting. I'll ponder it a bit.
