80 2.5 140 HP MERCRUISER

JUST BOUGHT THIS BOAT AND THE STARTER IS LOCKED UP DOES THIS MOTOR ROTATE IN CCW ROTATION OR IN CW ROTATION AT THE CRANKSHAFT PULLEY. ALSO DOES ANYONE KNOW HOW YOU CAN CHANGE OVER TO ELECTRONIC IGNITION OR AM I JUST GOING TO HAVE TO LEARN POINTS.

First be sure it isnt the engine that's locked up. The engine should be standard rotation if it is a single engine set up. (CW)<br />Electronic conversion kits are easily available from any marine dealer for around 100 bucks.

all mercruiser STERNDRIVE engines with a #1,R,MR or Alpha drive turn Counter Clock Wise viewed from the flywheel end.which is also called standard rotation.

Pertonix is very easy to install, and maintenance free, about $85.00. Just go to your local auto parts store with your information and they will fix you up

Sorry Johnkc.. Not all Mercrusiers are CCW. Their are a couple of oddballs out their.

DOUBOY80... The 2.5 is not a 140HP its a 120hp.

ok if the 2.5 is a 120 then what size motor is the 140?

I know the 3.0 liter Mercruiser in my Dad's Sportcraft, (I'm working on it right now! :mad: ) is 140 HP.

its CW looking at the crank from the front. CCW looking at the flywheel is correct but you cant really see that when the engine is running.

well i know this isn't a 3.0 v6 it is an inline 4
I-4 2.5l = 153cid = 120hp.....<br />I-4 3.0l = 181cid = 140hp.....<br />V-6 4.3l = 262cid = 175hp/205hp.....<br />V-8 5.0l = 305cid = 200hp/230hp.....<br />V-8 5.7l = 350cid = 260hp(other hp ratings are also ava.)<br /><br />BTW, Nobody has mentioned this so I will,<br />Loose the Cap-Lock........<br />I Don't like to be YELLED At......<br />And, It's Harder to Read....... :mad:

It worked for me. If you try to read it out loud, it doesn't work as well. It works best if you try to read it as fast as possible.<br /><br />Waht wree we tlkanig aoubt aynohw?

Yep, It Worked.....<br />I Still say it's Harder to read ALL CAPS THOUGH....... :D <br /><br />And, It's considered YELLING !!!!!!! ;)
