80 Evenrude 25HP Telltale

I just got a new to me 25 hp motor, model E25RCSA. Starts on second pull but no telltale flow for 45 seconds after i start it. Once it warms up will get strong telltale flow above idle but it stops again when i drop back to idle. Is this normal? If not any recommendations?

45 seconds sounds like too long. Also I would think it should squirt at idle also.<br /><br />Perhaps it's time for a new impeller. And while you are in there make sure the water tube is fitting up well with the lower unit when it goes together.

thanx yep...best i know the impeller has never been changed out and its > 20 years old. New to outboards but work on cars..doesnt look too hard...any key hints in doing this without screwing it up??

I have a new Mercury 25 and mine does the same thing. It'll dribble a little water until the thermostat opens fully. In the winter time the thermostat opens and closes while running causing the tell-tale get weak then strong.
