1980 Sears Gamefisher 7.5
Model 217.585840
Techumseh 640-19 Carb
I acquired this motor with zero information about it's history, other than it ran. I can get it to start up on starting fluid, but then it's the same story... it dies. I pulled all fuel lines and rinsed the tank. There was a lot of debris and clogging so I then took apart the carb. I ordered a new fuel pump element (I understand that it needs to be installed at a 45 deg rotation) along with a new float. I blew carb cleaner through the ports/jets and some were obviously partially clogged. I then removed the needle and discovered that at the bottom of the needle housing was a white rubber looking material that appeared to be crumbling. I picked it out piece by piece and cleaned the fuel hole so now everything is clean and free. My question is regarding the rubber I found where the needle sits... is that a needle seat that was falling apart? I've looked at the Sears Parts DIrect site and I don't see anything being shown as going into that orifice before the needle.
Any advice or help to bring this old engine back to life?
Thanks!
