Ive just bought my first boat. It is supposed to be a 80 hp evinrude 1984. All I have to go on now is the pictures. It was bought on a charity auction. I am picking it up friday. Im sure Im going to need help getting it going. Ive been researching every thing about the boat I can find no 80 hp evinrude made exept in the 60s. From the pictures I can tell it is Proably a 1984, the color is about right (light bluish-gray) for the year. The rig apears to be original equipment. I found out that Ozark went out of business in the early 90s.
The charity auction doesnt know if the boat was winterized last year or not. It apears it was reg. last year. Is there a certain smell the fuel additives have? Should I dump the fuel any way? I plan to buy manuals as soon as I get the numbers from the motor. Ive found a OMC manual that covers 85hp-130? and also the larger 150s-240s?. Are the as good as the OMC that cover just one size (85hp-130?)? Its going to be in the 60s this weekend so Im sure im going to give it a try. Where can I put my hand to determine if it is getting to hot befor any damage is done.
Ive never launched a boat from a boat ramp. I hope I dont have to many stories for the forum. Wanted to say thanks for all the info Ive already gotten for the forum. Ive already picked up a season of infro from the forum in a weekend of reading. One more thing I forgot to mention Im sure it is a vee four ( from the cowling picture there is no numbering on the decal like a lot of them Im asuming it is a 85hp).

Hi, Hossken.

First lesson: Post in the right forum. Your deal doesn't sound to me like a Stupid Human Trick. :D

I am moving this to Outboard Questions.

Good luck. :)
