Ok.. I have had lots of problems getting to the point I am at.. But let me say its a great feeling to hear the motor run.. The only problem left is that I noticed when I started my jmotor for the first time I didn't see an water being spit out. I then dropped my lower unit and am in the process of rebuilding the water pump with a kit.. Here is my question.. I followed the procedure in my book and it never mentioned putting it into GEAR. Someone told me that I missed a step and that I will have trouble getting the unit back on and working right. Nothing has moved since I have taken it off, the shaft hasn't move nor the shaft that the propeller is on.. Can I just make sure nothing moves and slide it right back on with no trouble, or is there something I need to be paying attention to?

As long as the power head is still in neutral, and the lower unit is in neutral, the L/U will go back on without too much trouble, IF your shift shaft hasn't moved. In neutral, moving the propshaft doesn't affect anything and moving the driveshaft only affects reallignment with the power head.

More than likely you will need an assistant when reinstalling the L/U. As you line everything up your assistant may need to gently turn the flywheel so the driveshaft will re-engage. I'd remove the spark plugs to make the flywheel turn easier and to prevent an accidental engine start. After re-installation make sure everything is shifting normally before running.

If you want you can shift the L/U and the powerhead into forward while disassembled and then reinstall the L/U. Here is a link to an older thread where I explained how to remove and reinstall a lower unit on my Merc 500. I think I missed a bolt but you may have a couple more anyway. Everything else should be the same, it is for my inline 6's.
http://www.iboats.com/cgi-bin/ubb/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=29;t=010967;p=1#000011

Thanks for the advice. I didn't wait for responses and went and ahead and tried it.. I was successful.. I did have to turn the drive shaft to twist the impeller into place, but I marked it and just made a full revolution. The unit slid right back into place with no trouble.. Now my motor is peeing again!! Thanks for the help.
