80 hp serial #

Hi guys/gals a family member just got a deal on a mercury 80 hp! serial #2664695 I'm thinking around 1969. and guess what no reverse, are gear case parts good or NLA? he will need a dog,rev gear and seal kit. It sure is tough with faimly they will never ask before buying but always ask to help fix it. thanks bob........

A.D. we have a machine shop in our area recuts the gears in some clutch dogs they can do also, ck the Fenton area for costs I know someone does it near you because the sell rebuild units from a distriuber in your area. Unfortunely they are wholesale only, you need a tax lisence to deal with them dirictly, but someone is doing there machine work--Bob

Thanks Laddies, you must refeering to McD I deal with them they would never redress a dog or its teeth there. <br />The family member in Q has gone out and bought a used gear case, he now has 1600.00 in a 1969 or so OB. for that amount I would get into the 80's at least. when it started out he did not want to spend much ha ha it always comes around! they never understand, there is never a great deal!<br />thanks A.D.
