80 Johnson 7.5 recoil starting to jam

My 80 Johnson 7.5 recoil is starting to become a problem. It's getting harder to pull and when released it makes a ratcheting noise as the rope returns. All in all it's still working but becoming more difficult. I don't see anything broken, it's well cleaned and the parts are lightly lubed. The plastic 'teeth' that engage the flywheel have a little wear but don't appear beat or broken. Any suggestions? thanks
