The boat is a 17' fish ski, and i been having a issue with getting the motor to high speed, but i have found the cause. The timing advance is not advancing the timing, not sure if the advancing plate is gummed up under the flywheel, or if the spring in the lever is weak, any suggestioins?

Once you disconnect the throttle cable at the engine, pop the link arm off between the spark advance lever and the timer base arm and move them by hand. You can feel if they are stuck or binding. I use a white lithium grease on both. You can get to the spark advance lever ok, but will have to pull the flywheel if the timer base is sticking.

Got, it, using PB Blaster and working the timing plate back and forth i was able to free it up, now i will get some good white litheuim and lube it up. Thought at first i had a fuel or a spark issue, it would alway start but had a high idle after being warm, and the other symtom was it was had getting out of the hole, load up and die. Makes sense now, was easy to troubleshoot after figuring out, how it was supposed to work. If anyone else see this and whats to rule out this issue, just take off the hood, move the idle up lever and watch the linkage if the advance doesn't move with the butterfly's its sticking.
