I have read about them, it sounds like a lot of work to get your firearm, and to get it right.

Re: 80 % lower AR

Oh yea, a man after my own heart. I have a lower 80% AR frame, but haven't yet milled it open. But I do have plans to do so after I finish my boat project. I have the needed tools and end mills, so it won't be too much effort to finish a few for me. I also plan on buying a few 80% AR10's too... Don't think I would buy any composites though. But that is just me... I already have a few AR15's in difference calibers, but you can never have too many guns...I always said that!

I have not looked into the cost difference, if it is significant, then it might be a way to go, if you have the ability to do the milling work required, I own several AR and AK rifles, as well as a couple of M-16 and full auto AK's, it might be fun to build your own, but I am to old for that, I just find friends that need money and pick up the good buys. But as stated, if you have the tools and ability, it could be fun.

The tool and ability are not an issue for me. As for cost, from what I have researched it all depends what you want for a finished product. Really low end is some where around five or six hundred dollars. A high end build can go well north of 4K. Either way you end up with a non serialized AR with no paper trial.
