80 merc 260 water in distributor

run boat for 15 minutes at cruising speed and she starts to studder then bogs down and stalls. wants to restart but wont. found water in cap. clean out and sprayed with wd40 wiped out again and starts. runs for 10 mins and does same thing. replaced gasket and it happens again. its a mallory distributor with electronic conversion from sierra. what gives? very fustrating boating season.

Gotta have water spraying the dizzy. It's not coming up the dizzy shaft. Replaced gasket you say, was that the dizzy cap gasket. The one between the dizzy and manifold is an oil gasket.

It's condensation. If the vent screens in the distributor are plugged up you can develop condensation. While you may wipe out the cap, the area below the cap and the breaker plate may have a lot of water in it.
Compressed air and some WD40 in the bottom of the distributor will help. A cracked distributor cap can also be a problem with condenstation

No water spraying on it. Yes replaced the cap Gasket. Where are the vents located? Think I'm gonna replace cap even though I can't locate a crack. Thanks for info guys.
