800 series transom gasket, which one?

I have a 1984 OMC 800 series stringer system that needs a new transom gasket. Which one fits my unit. I understand that there are two different types, one with 17 holes and another with 22. Does it make any difference which one I use? I'll put a bead of silicone on the gasket before I install it anyway. <br />Thanks!<br />Jack

Count your holes and use Ultra silicone.

It's the only one readily available... it's square. I used 3M 5200 on the seal and in the screw holes. I can vouch having had to remove the gasket once after replacing it that the 5200 works. Darn gasket did not want to come off. Took forever to clean the surface to reinstall.

You want the 22 hole.

When I removed the original seal during my resto, I could hardly believe that absolutely no sealant was used. It was on for 30 years and never leaked a drop.<br /><br />When I reinstalled it, I ran a thin bead of 3M 4200, connecting all the screw holes.

Thanks for the input. Is there any problem with putting the 17 hole gasket in place of my 22 hole model? I've found one that may be a decent deal, but it has the 17 holes in it.<br />Thanks,<br />Jack

Won't fit Jack. It's not just the number of holes, it's the size of the boot and the hole in your transom.

Mine came with instructions to use polyuraphane sealent.
