Gentlemen,
I've got both my 800 Stringer outdrives in bits ready to reassemble. The boat is a 1981 with twin 3.8 V6's
The main problem has been salt corrosion rather than wear (everything was seized and I'm in the UK with little/no parts availability) but thats another story.
After fighting with the shift cable housings they are now removed, however one has a plain push rod/rack gearchange and the other has the 'hydraulic assist'/rack gearchange. The hydraulic assist box had very gunky oil with considerable water in it.
I read the plain rod is the later version. Will the different assemblies affect operations - should I seek parts to make them the same?
Two points. The only manual available is Seloc - and - I've never used this boat, it was laid up some while . . .
