I have a 1980 800 OMC stringer hydro shift outdrive. I am having trouble getting the shift housing synchronized properly on the shift assist cylinder on the lower gearcase. I have the OMC manual and tried using the 9 15/16 lead length on the short forward cable but that left the reverse cable a bit long and it wouldn't quite shift into reverse. I'm thinking that just pulling the short forward cable clear out will give me about the right throw in the shift converter but I sure would appreciate a confirmation of this or other advise on how to do this properly. As you can imagine I sure would be disappointed if I put it all back and it still wouldn't be right. All help will be greatly appreciated.
