Please dont laugh too hard before blasting my idea out of the water. I have a 5.7 OMC with an 800 Stringer outdrive, I ran into a situation out on the water wih my family last week and I would like to have a back up for the future. My issue was our boat began overheating at idle due to a bad impeller and it seemed like we couldnt have gone through one more "no wake zone" before I was going to flip my lid. So now for the stupid question... could I put an inline electric transfer pump on the line coming from the outdrive to pump water up to the circulating pump to bypass the impeller? I would only use this in an emergency situation to "limp" back in. Let me know your thoughts, Thanks for your time.

Re: 800 Stringer impeller bypass???

sounds like a lot of engineering and expense to bypass a $15 part that will not fail if replaced every 3 years

You have to grease the w/p splines anyways or they'll fail (and there's no limping in when that happens).
