80hp mariner outboard

hi folks. i'm lookin at a boat with a 80 hp mariner outboard, 4 cyl. on it. anyone know why i can't find much info on this motor? motor is said to be an 1983 SN 589174

I've got a 1981 Merc labeled version of this motor. It's a nice, smooth runner, if a bit thirsty. I've been having lots of electrical problems this summer, as the wiring harness rots from age. Carbs are very sensitive to fouling, but easy to clean and rebuild. If I could solve my recurring electrical problems, I'd fall in love with it again.

its a inline 4 cylinder mer. what needs to be said. they used that same design for over 30 years. bullet proof but thirsty.
