Ok, I've been lurking around looking for info and now I'm going to have to just come right out and ask.

I have a 1988 80hp 3cyl Merc that is stock with a 13/? prop and I'm looking for ideas on how to get more umph from her.

The NEW engine is out of the question so let's not go there.

She's hooked up to a 21' deep-v center console that the previous owner bought as a package deal.

Does this engine have similar parts wtih the: 90, 100, etc?

Share with me your vast knowledge on;
Carbs,
Jets & Needles,
Heads,
Coils (high output?),
Prop swaps,
ETC.

I need to start my wish list.

Thanks

Re: 80hp Merc needs Umph

I think you got all your gonna get out of that motor. You have a lot of boat to push and an 80hp seems a bit underpowered. The larger motors 90hp and higher go to a straight 6 or a v4/v6 settup. If you like the boat, I would sell the 80 and get a 150 to 200 minimum.
