my wife and i are looking at a 1981 chris catalina inboard. it will be our first boat however i'm a coxswain in the uscg for the past 3 yrs driving boats twice this size and have experience with true inboards... as i worked at a marina for a while working on them and test driving them. i'm just a little weary as we will be keeping it on the trailer once i convert it to bunks and the bluebook value online states it's well worth the money being asked for it. here is what the paper states!!!

Boat is in great condition. SEP 2005 Marine Insurance Survey appraised boat @ $19,000. Engine has 684.5 hours. New risers, exhaust manifolds, and steering cable installed in 2004. Has a 305 cu in chevy short block engine Needs a circulating pump and alternator, but otherwise is in great condition. Cabin is immaculate, and non smoking! Includes large functional icebox, and two working sinks, galley and head. 20 gallons fresh water tank. Head has 5 gallon gray water capacity. New Sony AM/FM/CD/ MP3 Compatible stereo and deck area speakers installed in 2006. Four windows slide open, new nautical theme curtains included! New twin trumpet horns in 2006, new ignition, too! VHF, Compass, Fishfinder and 4 rod holders included. All Handrail stanchions replaced in'06 with Stainless models. Engine compartment has automatic halon fire suppression system. Electric power upgraded to be GFIC in 2006, smoke and carbon monoxide detectors added in 2006. Nice bimini top with full side curtains, and back drop enclosure. it is also including a 00' or 06' roller trailer!!

is it worth the 10,000 asking?????

I think that is a very fair price. I would however ask that the pump and alternator be fixed so it could be taken out for a test run. Seems that with all that has been done to her at least those two items should not pose a problem to the seller. If he declines that offer then I would have a little question mark on my brain as to why. In either case if you decide to buy draw up a disclaimer stating that the purchase would be pending a trial run and the parts would be supplied and installed by you. Or you could just get a marine survey done, but without a running engine it might be a waste of time and money. It's probably going to be a $300.00 excursion on your behalf but beats the hell out of loosing 10 grand.
