bought this motor mainly for the thumb screws. really clean 81 4.5. low hours..... but the ph was frozen shut. tried the shot of oil in the pistons. so i pullled the motor apart today and this is what i find

DSCN0187.jpgDSCN0186.jpgDSCN0185.jpg

there is no penetrating oil that can help this poor motor. guy tells me that he used it last winter, and couldnt start it. gee i wonder why? strange marks on the top of the pistons. i made a few with a screw driver to see if it had a busted crank. really sad to see this, the block is pretty much scrap too. :(
anyone looking for some parts?

I know a guy who's rebuilding a big Sea Ray with a huge cut down the middle of the transom and only one of 2 motors in it, no stern drives and a $500 budget. He's planning on hanging a 50hp outboard off of the transom to replace the twin 260 hp that came with the boat. He could use the 4.5 hp as a kicker. You should look him up.

Seriously though it's always a shame to see what people can do to a perfectly good motor.

the part that hurts, motor is really clean, not mint, but no rust all the bolts came out really nice and easy. it pains me to part the motor out :( prop is in new condition. i havent tested the lu, but i wouldnt be surprised if it holds pressure. seals are all nice too.

What choice do you have but to part the motor out? unfortunately It's internals are pretty much toast! Think of it like an organ donation. The good parts will help go on to make one or more people very happy.

yes good point! i needed a set of thumb screws, and i got the motor for less than one set, not the pair, just one set. paid 60 bucks for the motor and the screws were worth the effort. guess i have a spare lu for when a 7.5 comes up with a bad lu :)
