I've had it out a couple times trying to work out the problems then the stator died. I have a good looking used one in place and upon starting it the idle was way to high. I think I now have it set correctly to start reliably, the manual say's the roller should be set at the lower mark but it seems to want to be centered between them (which makes sense to me). I think I have the carbs synched but it's just a little rougher then before the stator went. I have the omc manual for it and I'm a little disappointed with it. RPMs are 1100 in a tub so it should be about right on the water. Is the only adjustment, the trunnion nut? The idle stop screw is against the stop, so that's good unless someone messed with that screw.
The throttle is my next problem. When out on the water it got up and planed pretty good, but the throttle linkage at full open is no where near what the book pictures. I have to firmly push the lever farther then I think I should and the roller cam is just a little up the plate ( see loer red circle). Is the upper stop screw stopping it from advancing(upper red circle)? I had an old mercury that didn't throttle up right and the problem was in the control box. Is there something in there I should look at ? I was getting about 4800 rpms out of it, so it's in range. The boat is a bit bigger then it should be pushing, but it's a light boat, just wide. What do I adjust to get better response on the throttle and not wear the handle out.

I'm by NO means an expert.. I'm still learning myself. Having said that..
What you have in the upper red circle looks to me like the timing advance stop.. If so, then No, it should not stop the throttle from advancing further.
If that upper red circle is the timing advance stop, DON'T mess with it unless you have timing problems..

My beginner brain is thinking you may have throttle cable adjustment issues or something more in line with that...
I KNOW others will help you out for sure... but wanted to chime in real quick and suggest you do NOT adjust that upper red circle until someone more knowledgeable than I am can advise further...

For what it's worth...:)

if the pic shows full throttle, something way off, roller should be closer to the top of the cam.
and agreed with jbuote don't mess with upper circle .
maybe control cables

I am not sure which thing to look into next, new cables? or ? . It has been a little harder to start since the stator went. Used to start on the first crank now it's four or so, and the idle is not as smooth. I changed out the fuel line to the motor because it was pretty worn on the clamps. Have not been able to smooth it out no matter what I've tried. Had it out yesterday and it got up on plane good, very windy day so couldn't get above 4400 RPM. Just don't see any thing about adjusting the cam roller for WOT.

You said you have a "Good looking used one in place" for the stator.... Did you check it out as outlined in the manual or just put it on? I'd check it to be sure it's really good.. Other than that, I'd watch the throttle cam and move the throttle. Does the whole cam (the plate that's supposed to move the roller) move as much as it should or does it just move "A little" so you don't get the throttle butterflies open?

Again.. a newbie here, but if you understood, great!
Hopefully someone else will know what I mean too and better explain, or even better yet, have something else in mind for you to check! LOL
I'm just going to follow along now so maybe I can learn something too if you don't mind.. :)
