'81 evinrude50 only starts with harness disconnected and only kills with switch "on"
It's driving me crazy. Old key switch wouldn't start it. I had to hotwire it to start.. Replaced key switch, same problem. Also, after hotwiring it it will only turn off with the key in the "on" position. I didn't find any posts on this. I've tried reversing the battery and ignition terminals, no change. History is that all the wiring was destroyed when I bought it so I rebuilt the wiring. Wired the repaired harness as follows: s-solenoid (and neutral safety), B-battery at starter solenoid feed lug, c-choke, i-to "buss" column-it makes third wire on terminal 2nd from bottom.
hot branch in harness terminal end to top of "buss" column (red), M1 to ground,
M2-? I don't know what to do with M2,
How does that head-temp sensor wire in and how does it function.
Thank you for helping on this, a one hour job has taken two days so far.
