Hi -- see video at bottom
So I got this motor at the end of last year and it would not idle. Over the winter I've done the impeller+housing, carb kit, replaced the cracked bearing carrier, changed the spark plugs and replaced the slow speed knob. It now idles!

There seems to be some water getting in the motor cowling, not too much, it seems to be draining out no problem before it builds up. I'm told this is probably the powerhead to exhaust gakset. Is it ok to run without fixing this? It's a little beyond my technical capabilities and it will only ever see fresh water

was also hoping you guys could check out the video and see if you see anything majorly wrong ?? thanks!

I would just leave it, maybe one day you will want to gie it a go, but it can wait.
They can become a problem if the water leaking is going up into the motor instead of being the used water coming back down. If it is the water going up then the motor will be losing some of its cooling pressure. If you can check the temp of the heads then that will let you know the answer to that, if you can keep you hand on them for ten/fifteen seconds then its pretty much fine.
The other issue is if that leak is letting exhaust fumes into the cowling, that can cause it to run bad and if you tke the cowling off the problem goes away. So if you have problems running it especially at high rpm then check that but otherwise just leave it until you feel more adventurous with it. By the way replacing the cracked bearing carrier is probably not much less a technical a job as lifting the powerhead up.
Also clean all the electrical grounds.

hey thanks for your reply, the bearing carrier was just two bolts, i thought the powerhead would be a lot more work? I should really invest in a service manual but i've invested enough in this older motor

its water jacket gasket failure (there are 2 gaskets).
best is to lift powerhead up and change this 2 gaskets.
3-4 hours job
runing motor in this condition sooner or later you will get low cooling water flow and get seized motor

Looking at the gasket for it, if its leaking from the port side then thats the intake side, from the starboard is the outflow side. i wouldnt just assume cause ts leaking out the bottom of the lower cowling on one side that that is also the side the leaks on.
Lifting the power head is just undoing a few bolts underneath and disconnecting a few pipes, taking some photos to remember where everything goes is a big assistance

i searched around a lot to find a detailed guide on removing it, even tried that site with the online manuals but couldn't find it

Bolts a underneath, disconnect everything that connects from cowling to engine- thats it
