Well, here's what i know..sorry, it's not alot..

Boat is brand new to me, so info is limited. Went out today and ran great to my hunny hole, went to use the TM to get the rest of the way in (since its kinda shallow) and after realizeing it would take forever, I cranked up the ole girl and well, she didnt budge when put her in gear! LOL I was in about four feet of water at around 58 degree's or so for over and hour looking for my prop. Yep, she just fell off on me! I know the prop nut was on, with the retainer, but guess just not well enough. LOL Oh well, no use crying over spilled milk. Well, after 7 hours of using the trolling motor to get back to the dock i am finally home!! Now, i need a new prop obviously.

Boat, 1986 Bomber 17' bass boat. 900lbs itself, with me and my buddy combinded weight of around 1400lbs or so with gear and fuel. ( Not including engine)

Engine, 1981 Mariner 150hp 2 stroke. HAD a 3 blade 21p prop on her..lol. Would do right at 61mph at 5900rpm or so..would reach 6100rpm if I wasnt careful easy..Dunno the max of this engine, but didnt wanna risk it.

What i want, to hit mid to high 60's. Willing to lose holeshot to do it. Right now she freaking screams out of the hole.. Will stand the boat straight up if I forget to trim ALL the way down. Even just slightly up and she will plane, but ride a "wheelie" forever before coming down... dangerous as i cant see of the bow when that happens. Not to mention pointless.

With as small and thin as my boat is, I know she will do more..I have been on boat's that chugged and were way over propped, i know the feeling. Mine is NOT anywhere near that! She simply needed more prop to begin with. I was already going to get one, now I HAVE to get one! LOL Not rich here, so some of the $4-$500 prop's they have out there are WAY out of the question. Just looking for a SS OR aluminum prop that will net me mid to high 60's if I can do so. The boat is a V hull, and barely 4 1/2 foot across if that. MAYBE 5'... I feel sure she has more to give, am I correct? Or simply wishing for too much? Thanks!

BTW, anyone have a used prop they wanna sell cheap? LMFAO!

I believe I did the whole asking thing right? I gave engine size, boat size, load, speed, rpm, everything I could that was on the other thread link...Maybe I didnt give enough info? I don't know much more than all this, but I'll do what i can...

Re: 81' Mariner 150hp prop advice needed please.

I have been checking around alot and THINK the mariner is the same as a 150 merc black max xr2.???

If so I have found a 23 pitch merc xr2 prop around here NEW for $80. factory...deal, not aftermarket. That should put me darn near where I want to be according to the little prop selector helper thing on here. because my engine is "over reving" I need a bigger prop. And the general info is on this site at least, that the 150 will hold a 26 pitch on a smal boat like mine. If I get this 23 picth I would think that would be fine.. Anyone? As many views as this thread has gotten and NO replies but mine makes me wonder a bit.

No one?

I went ahead and bought the 23 pitch..if nothing else at least it will get me back out on the water. Will post up again after I try it out this weekend to say if it helped or not.

Thought 900lbs was light for a bass boat, but after looking elsewhere I am starting to think it's at the lower end of bass boats yes, but heavy for a boat period. Seen quite a few post about boats weighing close to 600lbs or so with the same 150hp engine I have hitting 70 plus.. With my lard butt and the engine I know my engine must be working...Still hoping for mid 60's though. Will find out this weekend.

Unfortunately there is a minimum of info available for the Mariner. About the only thing i found is an 81 is likely made by Yamaha
but I can't confirm that.
Also can't confirm the gear ratio. If you pull the plugs and rotate the motor by hand and count the flywheel revolutions for one prop revolution. Mark prop and flywheel for an accurate count.
assuming same material and design a 2" increase should result is 300 to 400 rpm drop.
If it's around 5700 thats acceptable. Your better off a little high than lugging it.

I have a very similar setup to you with an 88 Mariner 150. I use two props, one for skiing/towing and one for cruising. I can't recall the pitch of each off the top of my head, I'll go take a look when I get home. The ski prop will get high 50s in good water and the cruiser will get me up to mid 60s.

I've had mine up to ~6k too but it doesn't like to stay there. I've been advised not to run it over 5500 for any extended period of time. Fun old motor though! It is a bat out of hell right out of the hole.

Re: the high view count, that happens from ad scripts and search engine crawlers. Annoying but a fact of life on large popular forums such as these.

If it's a tower of power (I-6) your max RPM's are 5600 I believe.
