Can anyone give me some help... my motor runs great at anything but an idle. motor either loads up and dies after a few secs or dies as soon as you ease it in gear. if I ues fast idle to clear it out then imediately put it in gear it runs fine. if I get it just above idle I have little problem. Any ideas. Have seen a cpl of post here that all these inline mercs have this problem there must be a way to help it without idling it up so much it hurts the lower unit.

The in-line mercs were built with a plastic bleed insert from cylinder to cylinder. Now most of these engines i have looked the insert is missing ( at the bottom of the lake ). Have a competent shop check it out. Adrian

You have to remove the bypass covers. On a 4 cylinder there are 3 inserts. They are pushed into the wee small holes that you will see. They are made of plastic and often get spit out.Get a small pin (tooth pick) and if you insert that and can push it in 1- 1/5 inches and touch the piston in the cylinder below it , it is missing. There is no insert on the bottom cylinder , only a check valve that puts oil back to the top bearing.
