I'm sure this topic has been discussed a lot. I searched but couldn't find exactly what I was looking for.

Seems to me that the consensus on the board is that for the most part Champion is the plug to go with for these motors.

I'm looking at replacing mine in my '82 115 Johnson. The Champion website has a plug finder. For an 82 115 there are two motors listed:

CV4 and COM

CV4 lists the L82C as the spark plug (For Commercial service use 876/QL16V)
COM lists the 5828 or the L77JC4 as the spark plug (For Commercial service use 876/QL16V)

Is one preferred over the other? At this point I won't be doing much extended low speed trolling.

Re: '82 115hp Champion Plugs

Thank you. I'll go with the QL77JC4. The gap is .30, I've been reading on here about some guys opening the gap up to .40 for a smoother idle. If this is done is there any trade-off at higher rpm?

The QL77JC4 is supposed to come to you gapped at .030. Fellows who troll a lot often widen the gap so the plug won't foul as quickly. The ignition can easily jump a gap of 7/16" at high RPM, so that the only performance difference at that range is probably in their mind.
