I have an 82 115 Evinrude that seems to overheat after it sits. I can run it then stop for 10 minutes. When I go to start it, the alarm goes off. I can then bring the engine speed up and the alarm will get quieter until it goes off. Stop and let it sit for 10 minutes or so and turn the key on, the alarm will sound again. Any Ideas?

Thanks!

I'm not sure what you are describing. Do you mean the hot alrm goes off with the engine off?

After running the engine, and turning it off. I can let the engine set for about 10 minutes and upon trying to restart the alarm will sound when I turn the key on. After running the engine for a bit the alarm will stop sounding. It seems like the engine gets hot with no water circulating through it.

check to see if your pee hole is clear. Mine seemed to get clogged up a lot after running. Maybe something inside was breaking loose and clogging it. I noticed someone painted the engine and I think some paint got in there making the hole smaller.

So, it only does this after running, not on the first start?

Check the temp sending wires with a ohmeter - see if they are really closing due to temperature..

The OMC horns are not "light-bulb" simple, I lost an hour or so debugging mine. The sending units are not swithces and may leak a bit of current.

I'm assuming there is a transistor in the horn that controls the current to the noise-making part. A bit current leakage in an old transistor could trigger the alarm.

Anyone who understands the actual guts of the horn could explain it better, I'm sure.

good luck
