82 merc 18 fuel pump carb question

I am rebuilding my carb and in my rebuild kit there is a plastic piece the same as the check valve diaphram. The carb had this piece in it when I took it apart..although the carb was attempted to be rebuilt before I had it and would not run. So, I'm not sure if this piece goes in between the check valve diaphram and the gasket or if was sent for shipping reasons and should be ommitted. I don't see it in my manual's picture either. Any help would be appreciated.

It is common practice to add a couple of small parts to a kit so they will work on other carbs too. It saves the manufacturer money. If the part doesn't show on your diagram then don't use it.
