This motor had sat for 5 years and had low hours. I purchased in July and it was running very well until this past week. Last used 2 weeks prior to that - motor and tank outdoors during this time.

Difficult to start and then not much power when pushing boat. When throttling up it starts to die. Less power when tried later that same day. In neutral it seems to run OK at higher throttle (once I get it started) but when I lower throttle to idle speed will stall and then not restart until sits for over 15 mins - and then is difficult to start.

Plugs were sparking but I replaced anyway - no difference. Plugs are wet when I check. Fuel filter looks OK.

Next step is to replace fuel but it is not old fuel.

This problem seems to be worsening rather than improving with time.

Any suggestions other than take in for a full tuneup? I only have three weeks left in season and am taking in for tune and winterize at that time.

Thanks

Re: 82 Seahorse 4.5 running rough and stalling

After reading this and speaking to local shop we decided there might be some blockage in one of the jets comingh ito the carb. I removed the carb and then use a sewing needle and a paper clip to clean the nozzle (or whatever is called - the verticle one). There was no visible blockage and after putting this all back together has ben no change.

Tried a LOT of times to start and eventually managed to run it for about 5 minutes. Sounded like was missing on one cylinder occasionally. Then stalled as throttle deceased and could not restart,

Have changed fuel after emptyig tank but probably still old fuel in line yet...

Any more thoughts?

Note this is going in for FULL SERVICE in 3 weekes anyway as it is almost end of season
