82 searay 260 mercruiser having problem with coil and distributor getting fire

hi Guys any help on this one would be greatly appreciated. the skinny no fire from coil. however when key is on run position with a wire attached to a ground and touching off and on the terminal Green and white on back of distributor,the coils fire. this motor is the 260 mercruiser with thunderbolt ignition on an 82 searay any way to get this functioning again
would be great open to all suggestions thanks so much endurance

Run it through this troubleshhoting process and see what comes out
