OK today I took the boat out and before i trailered the boat to the lake I had to add TnT fluid. Got the boat in the water and after about an hour of running around i noticed an oil slick following me around. The trim also quit working. After i got it on the trailer i had to open a large screw plug just below the motor and lift the motor by hand. A the fluid comming out was milky. I think the problem is on the main tilt ram seals since it has a greasy sludge on the top around the ram.

Would the BRP seal kit fix this? Are there any surprises to look out for while servicing the unit?

Start at the begining,

why did you add fluid in the first place.?
did you bleed the system?
Did you torque the manual release screw back in.?

Have you got the shop manual?

Re: 83 115hp tilt and trim problem

added fluid about a month ago it was low. When the fluid was low the pump would run for a 2 or 3 seconds and then the motor would move. I was told the fluid was low so I raised the motor and filled the resivor on the starboard side of the motor. I did not remove the manual release screw. I didnt know it existed until the unit quit working and I had to get the motor tilted up to trailer it home.

It had been sitting for about a month or 2 when I had to add fluid again. I noticed some fluid on the ground and a sludge around the main tilt ram. Thats what makes me think I need a seal kit
