Here it is, new fuel pump, new filters (2) new and old gas mixed about 2 to 1 on the new to old, clean fuel lines, clean filter at carb, check valve at tank clear. When I crank to start she will run for 15-20 seconds and then shut off, when I pour gas straight to carb, she will run through it then stop. Any ideas would be great as far as where to look now.I am new to boating so I am at a loss.

I did fail to mention that while working the linkage I get 2 squirts each time I move the linkage.

mine did the same thing. I took the carb off and got to the float and it was so loose it was falling off. so i tightned it and sprayed crab cleaner in it 5 mins later started and ran perfect.

I thought of pulling the carb to check the float but was concerned about gasket being non-usable and not finding another one outside of a rebuild kit, what shape was yours in?

Not bad. i used it again but i cant tell you too. i dont now what shape it would be in. Best just to pick up the one gasket on the top thats all u need. and just coat the carb and keep coating it when running it. Because it might of been my injectors too.

oh and i never removed the whole carb to get it running. i just took the top part where the float is. Check for deprie and stuff in the float area. Your float may be sticking.

Re: 83 3.0 Mercruiser Fuel Problem

You can pick up a universal kit for any mercarb or rochester @ aftermarketmarine.com for under 40 bucks and the carb dip is only 19 @ auto zone. do it right the first time or your just wasting time, money and more time on the lake Also I personally would never dissasemble the carb on the manifold your chances of dropping somthinf down into the manifold aren't woth the 5 minutes it takes to remove the whole carb. You must have debre in a jet or the float could be soaked or sticking many other problems. Go to the stickies section at the top o the forum and check all other symptome to your problem 1st start with the less exspensive 1st and work your way from there fuel pressure, syphonvalve, vent fule pick up strainer filters and so on. Good luck and post back

First of all thanks for the assistance! I just finished draining the tank. I will go through the fuel delivery system again and then go to carb, I am scared of the carb though, not enough confidence.
