'83 35hp Starter Squeal

The motor is a 1983 ELCTS..... last year i put new brushes in the starter since the leads came off of 2 after inspecting it when it would not start or turn over..... Starter worked fine all summer last year..and near the end it started to squeal and drop out of turning the motor at times ....

This year I tried to fire it up turned slow and squealed again and dropped out from cranking all connections were cleaned batteries are at full power 13.6 volts I lubed the shaft on the bendix ....if I hold the key it will make 4-5 revolutions and bendix retracts and squeals ..when i did brushes i cleaned whole starter in side with electrical cleaner and lubed all the shaft bushings.....what gets me is it worked great for the summer till fall came and this all started on me and is here this year also....

Any suggestions........all ears

sounds like time to replace bearings.

Tash U mean bearing in the starter right i hope so lol.....yes I was thinking that my self but wanted to make sure it was them ....i will call omc dealer to see if in stock should i do the thrust washer also

Ok i looked on the parts diagram and i did not see any bearings for the starter....there is a cap plate but i believe thats a bushing ...and i checked it and it does have a lite grease on it....

any help would be appreciated need to get rid of the squeal....i am going to rip it down today so any info would help while i have it apart

Ok took the starter apart and found that the plastic brush holder on the end cap split in two at the screw holes does any one know if the new brush kit comes with a new brush holder or is it seperate i looked on BRP and does not say if a holder comes or not and no parts number for the plastic brush holder
