I have a 1983 40hp twin cly single carb that will start and idel great but bogs down under load.If I nurse the throttle up it will run but skips bad,if I throttle up quick it will quit.I have put a kit in the carb and fuel pump, replaced all hoses ,fittings, filter and tank.My compression is 95 and 93.I put a fuel pressure guage between fuel pump and carb,2lbs at idel, drops to 1 lb at high idel and stays there. Is that enough compression to pump fuel, and what is the hose that runs from the fuel pump to the other side of the motor?Iappriciate any help or suggestions!

All you need to do to check the fuel pump is squeeze the primer bulb while it's acting up, if it runs better there may be a problem with the pump. No change means it may be something else.

Open the low speed mixture 1/4 turn at a time and test run.----Costs no $ to do.

Please read post #4 and test acceleration after opening the low speed needle 1/4 turn.----This has nothing to do with smooth / best sounding idle to your ears.
