'83 60 hp Evinrudes throttle control boxes

I have a pair of '83 60 hp Evinrudes that are running like a dream BUT the throttles leave a lot to be desired. There is a great deal of play and very little sensitivity in the control arms. Can these be adjusted - I think they might need to be replaced but these things are scarce in South Africa. Could the cables be playing a role in this? I am growing to love my motors but these controls are driving me to drink. Please help!!

The controls tend to loosen up-overtime.<br /><br />Remove the inspection covers on the boxes and look for play. Many times it's just a bushing gone.
