I have a 1983 80HP 4 cyl. Merc. with a Presolite remote pump unit.
After hitting something last summer that popped the motor up, it now wont stay down in reverse. Motor raises, and lowers as it should, and does not leak down from raised position. No external leaks. Everything seems to work fine until reverse pulls the motor up, then the systems fills with air. After cycling it up and down a few times it works normally until I use reverse again. My Clymer manual has troubleshooting for an inoperable system, but nothing for this problem, and so far I haven't found anything on the internet. I didn't want to open the unit until I get some incite.
Is there a seal or valve that can be replaced to cure this?
