'83 hydrasport 18'cc fuel smell

I was cleaning my boat after I used it and I noticed a strong fuel smell in center console.I have never noticed it before,I did fill the tank up before taking it out.There is no fuel in bilge and after two days now the smell has almost gone away.Any ideas?

Do you have an aluminum fuel tank, or is it a poly?

If aluminum, do you know the age of the tank?

Have the fuel lines been replaced?​

Thanks for response , poly tank ,looks orignal b/c plexiglass sight and fuel guage line up.The lines look good but I'm planing on replacing everything when I remove console.

I was born in morten plant hospital.I've done alot of fishing over there.
