This motor is on back of a 15' 1984 Tiderunner Rnbt that I bought last week. Previous owner had let set for 4-yrs after it broke down on him. I opened it up and found the number one piston has a hole in it. Started the tear down and ran into a couple of minor (lol) issues.
1. RE: Gear Case/Engine: I have the externals all removed. The four bolts from under and the two nuts from up top removed, but the motor will not seperate from the leg. I have the manual, and have followed it to the "T's" and after removing these 6 items...it says to "rock the motor until you break the seal". Well I have rocked that sucker to no avail. What could I be missing?
2. I moved on to the lower unit so I could feel some sense of accomplishment. I disconnected the one nut and two of the four bolts. The other two bolts broke off just below the head...but since they are not threaded into the lower unit I do not see how these will keep it from disconnecting. And yes, the shift linkage behind the water pickup is also disconnected...yet the lower unit laughs at my attempts to seperate it from the leg. Literally it does not budge.
Any help or guidance would be appreciated. I have worked on my own outboards for years, but never to this level.
