Hey guys,

So I just replaced the transom on a boat I bought. It's the first time I have ever used the 1983 50HP Mer blue ribbon.i have never owned a older 2 stroke. It takes about 1 minute or so for water to come out of the pee hole. It comes out steady after. The water is hot when it does come out. Sometimes there is steam. My Yamaha runs a lot coole.

Is this normal ? The motor runs good.

Not normal.------Water should come out in seconds.----You need a new impeller now !

Thanks Racerone, see I thought maybe it had a thermostat that it had a delay to start pumping water.

As well for the power trim on these motors is it ATF fluid or
Motor oil used?

There is no thermostat in that engine. I would say 10 - 20 seconds is about as long as it should take for water to pee.
In the older style power trim, Mercury said to use 20w engine oil

Okay so I changed the water pump, checked the pee hole for blockage. The motor is still take 40-50 seconds to start shooting water at idle and it's better when in gear. What seems to be off is the rubber gasket at the top of the motor where the water inlet connects too. ( not at the water pump) the rubber looks rough. We ran the boat for over an hour or so and nothing wrong. It has a strong stream when we are going. Once it starts come out it continues to come out.

Any ideas?

I think the issue is the seal underneath the power head. The issue now is where do I find this discounted part. Part # 79799

No Title

Well I bought this I know it's not the same model but it looks similar and hoping I can make it work? I know the gasket won't work but I am hoping the water Inlet sleeve will work.
