Hi all,

I'm in the process of getting ready for the season, which unfortunately this year entails a little more engine work then normal. Towards the end of last boating season one of my engines began having some power loss. I would be running at around 3500-3700 rpm, then the power on one engine would slowly start to drop and eventually kill the engine if i didn't back the throttle off fast enough. The engine revs fine in neutral but under load it gets to about 3000rpm at WOT.

A few other things I noticed but do not know if they could be related. According to the fishfinder voltage meter, the battery that is connected to this engine is charging at over 17.5V at speed (when it was able to sustain cruising speed). At neutral idle, the rpms are slightly higher then the other engine which runs fine (about 900-1000 on the good engine vs 1300-1400 on the one with issues). I tested the stator Ohms today and all readings were about half of what the Seloc book says is spec.

Compression is good, plugs are all sparking, and carbs were cleaned in the fall when the problem surfaced by to no avail. Racor is installed and gets new filter element each month during the season.

According to the Seloc, I should replace the stator because of the poor ohms readings I got. I just thought I would bounce this off some on here since there is such a huge knowledge base here. Am I on the right track or should I look at some other possible cause? Also if the stator does indeed need replacing should I go ahead and replace the rectifier or switch boxes too? Thanks for any help you give me!
