i have a few problems but first ill give the details. I own a 1983 mercury 70 hp. i bought this motor a month or so ago and i have replaced the trigger and stator because the wire insulation was flaked off completely. i cleaned the carbs and replaced all fuel lines. compression is 130 on all 3 cylinders. the motor will idle just fine all day long but only up to 1/4 throttle and it bogs down and dies if i do not back the throttle back down. the bulb stays tight and no effect on motor if i squeeze the bulb while running. ok first question, i pulled the carbs off to check the float level settings and noticed the main jet and vent jet were switched on both carbs (.096 was in vent and .072 was in main jet) would this cause the symptoms above? also when adjusting the float linkage i broke the little metal piece that hinges and makes contact with the needle. is this a part that i can buy on its own or in a kit?

thanks for the help
Zach

Re: 83 merc 70hp carb problems

well i found out that the rebuild kit has the part i need in it, so i just ordered two kits for my carbs. i figured i might as well put all new parts and gaskets in both since i have them off the engine. thanks for all the help
