83 merc 80hp dies

I have an 83 merc 80 hp that runs great for about an hour and then dies and wont restart, I go out the next day and same thing runs great for about an hour and then dies and wont restart, can anyone give me some ideas on this please?

It sounds like the stator is heating up and failing, next time it quits check the engine for spark.

I would also say stator, mine did same thing(1982 80hp merc) changed stator worked great, now i have to change the trigger assy a year later. If you can while you have it apart, check your trigger and maybe change it.would have saved me trouble a year ago. good luck
