ughh first trip out this summer and I didn't take to many people just to be safe...when i first tried starting the engine this summer in my side yard i had little to weak spark..i tested the coil and ended up hooking up a new coil on and it fired right up...I put the old coil back on and it still fired up...hmm didn't know what to think there but I ended up putting a new condenser in because the parts store didn't have any points. I don't have a dwell meter but i marked where the points were and replaced them in the same spot..So out on the water today and after the engine warms up I slowly take it to WOT. It sounded fine but i noticed it was sluggish and not as fast as it was last year. Rpms were at 3.25 ..after a couple minutes the engine just died completely? coast guard was riding by and seen it and came and made sure we had our handy flares and left lol..the engine seemed like it jumped timing on me...it kept trying to start but was'nt able to stay running...my temp was around 175 the entire time and volts were around 14 while cruising...i ended up getting a tow home..I took apart the distributor once i got home and everything seemed to be fine..i put the muffs on and it fired right up...but once i turned the key off the engine kept running?! i had to pull the positive off to kill it...I did it again and same thing but this time the engine cut out in a fighting manor? The oil light is staying lit now too? It has enough oil but i don't have an oil pressure gauge yet.. any input on this headache id appreciate it!

My guess would have to be some mixed up or crossed wiring to the coil + side during the swaps (thus the run on issue)
3.25 mean 3250?
that would indicate you are way low on power.

I guess the main question is: have you ever owned this boat where it worked correctly?

if so, did this all get gradually worse, or happen instantly

I think the best course of action would be to get points, cap rotor, and fuel filter (and the can-note sticker that says replace the can too) and do a complete tune up and do some basic checks of the fuel and ignition system

could even back up further and do a compression test - look for water in the cylinders (failing mainfold/riser or riser gaskets)
