Just got the engine. Been sitting about 4 years. cleaned tank & carb. Runs fine. Anyway, I was confused by not seeing the traditional water outlet stream when running the engine. I decided to check the impeller. Looked ok, some crud in the housing. Cleaned housing and re-installed impeller. (local dealer did not have one and it costs $70! For the impeller only!):eek: Ran water/air through the inlet tube. Noticed the return tube dumps into shaft cavity. I tested the pump with an electric drill and saw flow. Installed the lower unit and ran again. No stream. (returns into shaft cavity?)

Is this normal for this engine? How would I know if there is a flow problem?

Thanks for the info!

Re: 83 Ward's/chrysler 3.5 cooling question

I once had a 3.5 Chrysler OB and I think it was an air-cooled single piston engine, and I beleve water only ran in the lower unit.

If I remember right the piston is partialy out of the cowling at the rear and has ribs on it for air-cooling.

I may be wrong ... it's been a long time ...
