'84 25 hp Merc trouble

I have a 1984 25HP Merc that cavatated on me when running near full throttle, I backed off and it would push at an idle, but as soon as I throttled up the cavitation returned.

Do you think I spun the prop, or maybe the linkage inside the lower unit is slipping? I'm unsure what rout to go as I don't want to blow a bunch of $$ on a hunch, but also can't afford todays shop rates.

What do you think?

Sounds like a prop, if the clutch dog slips the unit will bang like you hit something. Mark the prop and the hub and run the boat after it slips check the marks if they arn't lined up the hub is slipping.

Great tip,i'll give that a try. One more thing I can put it in gear and it will spin by hand with little resistence.
