84 25 hp Mercury runs at full revs as as its started?

hiya,
ive had a bit of jip with my engine so i bought some powerfoam to clean carb and engine, some clown who was with me really really revved the engine, it then cut out, now when i start it regardless of where the throttle is it goes mental at full revs for about 20 secs then cuts out, any ideas?

Whn you move the throttle arm, can you see the linkages moving on the motor? Carb butterfly closes all the way?

Check your flywheel key to see if it sheared, maybe the timing is out to lunch?

hiya thanks for the info, gave it a go yesterday and just as i was about to pull the cord i thought i would peer into the carb to see the butterfly, lo and behold it wasnt there :^ ....strange......so i removed the carb and could see it in the next bit of the engine, removed that and there it was circular bit along with the 2 screws
d . Looks like all that revving made it unscrew itself.

Going to try it on the river today hopefully it wont cut out as you climb up thepower scale
